Depression Counseling

Feeling like you’re merely going through the motions? In a haze? Or, maybe, everything just feels…hard. If this resonates with you, know that you're not alone.

Sadness, as a natural emotional response to life's ups and downs, is a familiar companion to us all. Yet, there exists a distinct difference between the transient waves of sorrow and the profound weight of depression. Depression, encompassing diagnoses such as Major Depressive Disorder, can create darkness, even in the bright times.

Here's the important distinction: Depression does not discriminate. It doesn't care about your age, gender, race, or social status. It doesn't diminish your worth as a person. It's not a reflection of your strength or character. Depression is an affliction that can affect anyone, regardless of outward appearances or perceived resilience.

Understanding this crucial difference is the first step toward seeking the help and support you deserve. It's not a sign of weakness to reach out for help; rather, it's an act of courage and self-compassion. Whether you're grappling with the weight of depression yourself or standing beside someone who is, know that there is hope. With the right resources, support network, and professional guidance, it's possible to navigate through the darkness toward a brighter tomorrow. You are not defined by your struggles; you are defined by your resilience in overcoming them.

Depression can look differently in each person, but may include:

  • Feeling sad or depressed in mood

  • Not enjoying things you used to

  • Major weight changes, without intentionality

  • Difficulty sleeping, or sleeping more than usual

  • Feeling exhausted, empty, or withdrawn

  • Feeling like a “bad person” or low self worth

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Suicidal thoughts

Reach out. It can get better!

**If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please proceed to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
